Folded Heart Valentine

I finally got to make one of these fabulous fun fold cards: it was demonstrated at Leadership by the famous Shannon West. Her version was using a 12" x1 2" DSP paper that held a 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" Valentine card..........hmmm.....12" x 12" solid or DSP paper is not economical and not my cup of tea..........so I shrunk it down to fit a note card. I love it!!!! The finished project size is 3" x 2-1/4".....cute!!! I made a couple versions (using the sell-a-bration Welcome Neighbor DSP).

Version #1:
Left photo: with a tissue rose, Rhinestone Brad
Right photo: inside message after heart is unfolded

Version #2:
Left photo: with Butterfly Embosslit, Scallop Trim Boarder punch for the belly band and Butterfly Embosslit die with perched wings.

Right photo: Message inside with butterfly embellishment, Message is stamped and edges sponged with Melon Mambo ink.

Version #3:
Left photo: Using the new 2 Step Bird punch, Extra Large Fancy Flower, Fill Heart Punch, and polka dot texture folder/. The belly band is using the new Pinking Hearts Boarder Punch (so very delicate looking)

Right photo: Inside message with Heart to Heart Punch embellishments. The card is sponged using Pretty in Pink ink and the message is stamped using Close to Cocoa Ink.

How to make this card:
Left Photo:

(1) Heart template: fold in half a piece of 6" x 5-1/2".

Mark the center of the heart.

Score the right and left side of the center 1-1/2" away from the center.

From the bottom point of the heart measure 1-3/4" up, mark a horizontal Line (ooops - sorry photo missing this) .

The next line is 2-1/4" up from 1-3/4".

(1) 3" x 2" Solid CS

(1) 2-3/4" x 1-3/4" Whisper White CS (not shown in Photo)

Right Photo:

to be able to mark the score lines, make notches using the horizontal slot punch.

Left photo: see how the template fits over the 6x6 DSP.

Right photo: Lightly trace on the underside of DSP, cut, score and set aside.

Left Photo:To make the tissue flowers, use 10 layers of gift tissue and punch.

Right Photo: Layer all flowers and pierce center for the Rhinestone Brad.

Left Photo: apply the Rhinestone Brad to the center and rough up the petals.

Right Photo: Use a sponge to apply Melon Mambo ink to the petal edges.

Left Photo: use a mini glue dot to apply the small butterfly to the petal top.

Right Photo: Punch both sides of the belly band using the Scallop Trim Boarder Punch.

Left Photo: Wrap belly band around the folded heart. Apply sticky tape.

Right Photo: Use the Heart to Heart punch to embellish the inside card Version #2 and #3 are executed in the same manner.

Friends in Pink!

So I took some of the Phoenix Regional card influence to make this (a bit cheerier, of course, because it is in Pinks and Reds!). I also got great influence from Melissa blog (http://www.uptowncreations.blogspot.com/) and tweaked it just a little as it morphed into this card.



Here's a peek inside the card where I also stamped the Vintage swirls along the top note right side edge:

Here's what is needed to make this card:
(1) 5-1/2" x 48-14" in Pretty in Pink CS , score @4-1/4"
(1) Top Note in Whisper White CS
(1) 3" x 2-1/2" Real Red CS
(1) 2-3/4" x 2-1/8" Pretty in Pink CS
(1) 6-1/2" cut 5/8" wide Real Red Satin Ribbon
(1) 5" cut 5/8" wide Real Red Satin Ribbon for single knot
(1) Stamped Large Floral + (1) Stamped Small Floral (not in photo)



Stamp around card front using Pretty in Pink ink and swirl stamp: (notice I;m using those cool SU acrylic blocks!!!)


Stamp swirl along the right edge of the Pretty in Pink CS. Stamp Friends with Versamark and emboss using white embossing powder.


Here's what it should look like:

Now stamp the large and small flower on whisper white.


After cutting out the flowers, use the Versamark Pen for the centers, Apply white embossing powder, heat, and you've got the "hook up" to the Friends (also embossed in White). Pop with dimensionals.


Use the 3/16"Corner Punch for both Real Red CS and Pretty in Pink CS:


Yes, stamp the right inside edge in Pretty in Pink ink......sweet!

Regional Make and Takes

Here are the (6) Make & Takes from the recent Phoenix Regionals. The stamp set we got at Regionals was from the Occasions Mini: Vintage Vogue. For those who attended this event - wasn't it the best? So much fun and some great prizes, all great demonstrations, and sneak peeks of upcoming stamps!!!!! Yup, sneak peeks!!!! I can't wait - it is soooo suspenseful for all of you!!!! Hmmmm.........no cards in Red.........we'll have to fix that! I just finished these after I got back from Phoenix. I was so busy socializing that I never got to make these.......ooops. We also had to leave early for the airport (Thank you United for changing the flight to 3 hours early - dah!!!) so I missed a stamp prize : it did go to a well deserved attendee.

This was suppose to be a scrapbook page - I turned it into a card..........notice?

Here is a landscape card: finished project size 6"x3". I love the splattered background using the Spritzer Tool. The "F" was pretty easy to cut out. Love that ribbon with the clip!

And here is a great example of using those "kisses" (they're only 2"x1-7/8") from the Occasions Mini.....cute...cute...cute! Don't forget, we also have thos "hugs" , too that are 2-1/4" x 4" with a cute and dainty scallop eadge all the way around.

Here's another cute card (finished size 4"x4") using a cool button for the embellishment. Piercing at the top corner of Soft Suede does not show up on this card but it's there.

The quickest party favor to create: finished size is 3"x4x1". I love this favor. The flap slips under the scallop edge.
(1) Old Olive 3" x 9-3/4", score @ 3-3/4", 4-1/4", 4-3/4" and 8-3/4" on the 9-3/4" side
(1) 1-1/2" x 4" Rich Razzleberry CS
(1) 5" x 1" Whisper White CS, use scallop punch on one edge
(1) scrap Whisper White CS for the Crushed Curry Stamped Flower
(1) 14" cut Bashful Blue 5/8" wide Satin Ribbon: tie ribbon around the top of the holder, slip the flap underneath to keep close.

Tight on Space?

Added note: Julie Buhler (http://www.paperpleasing.typepad.com/) has posted how she unmounts her stamps so check out her blog. I wrap my wood blogs all the way around with packing tape so my stamps come off easily with a tug. If you don't wrap all the way around, there are 2 options:
1. tear the rubber off, leaving the foam and place on "cling" mounted sheets
2. place in the microwave at 5 second intervals, and pull stamp off (be care: wood will be HOT and don't put in too long!!!)
Once you have removed the stamps, donate the wood to a craft/scrap place, you would be amazed what people can do with acrylic paints and small wood blocks.........

OK - do you like the Acrylic Blocks yet? Here's a comparison of 8 Wood mount stamp sets vs 8 CD's full of the same amount of stamps sets...basically you save 50% in space. As demonstrators, we are seeing the "light". I LOVE IT! I've also done a comparison with all the acrylics out there: SU is the best: feels the best, and priced well. Be careful if you use those that are really "inexpensive" because they are thin and difficult to stamp with.............

And here is the same comparison with the Punches - the 3 Black punches are standing up along side the new style collapsible punches - wowsa............!!!!!


Here's another tip: I got my SU Exclusive Milk Carton Die and the first thing I do is apply a label so I can have the cut paper size. I am so glad it requires half a sheet of 8-1/2" x 11 " CS. By marking this, I don't have to measure it each time I am going to use it.


In addition, I use the white gel pen to mark the die cut lines so I can properly line up the paper without having too much waste (just in case the paper has a small cut corner.).

That's all I have to share today...............am in the process of converting some of my favorite stamps to use the new acrylics...........that's a job!!!

Vintage Vogue Valentine

This is one of the fabulous cards from Sherri Robinson's swap event at Leadership. The card was created by Sharon Trauth. Thank you , Sharon! I finally finished it. This was the very last card of 21 that we made at the event. We got a total of 42 cards - it was quite a marathon of card making within 4 hours but a very satisfying time. Sharon's card was in a portrait format, I decide to make mine landscape (influenced by a fellow demonstrator: Diane Tritz who sat next to me at the event). Never the less, I think this card is so beautiful! It incorporates the new stamps and accys available in the Occasions Mini!!!


Here's the inside: The Very Vanilla is sponged with Real Red.


And here is a close-up of the belly band: Isn't it feminine and sweet? Yes, after stamping the images on Real Red, hand cutting is necessary to create the beautiful edge.
