May Swaps

Look at these fabulous swaps. My swap was the Fold Up Circle Table Top Card posted on my blog on June 1, 2009.
This idea is from Teri - she taught us how to make this wonderful folded kimono. It is way cool..........and also introduced us to some textured white paper.

Carol made this swing card using the Party Hearty Stamp set. The background is textured using the Dots Sizzix Textured Plates (bad photo!):

This awesome Flower Pot card is from Sharon. The Chrysanthemum is made by using the Big Shot Flower Daisies #2 Die and curled with a bone folder.

Watercolor Butterflies

Now here's a card that is out of my comfort zone. I visited a Scrapbook Store in Novato, California called Krazy Kreations and absolutely fell in love with every project they showcased so attending one of their special monthly card clubs was no disappointment! This was our evening project: The Butterflies were embossed on watercolor paper. Then we colored each of them using a brush, dipping the brush in ink pools from Copic and a pool of blender solution. We got to select paper and made the butterflies "our own" so no cards were the same. I originally selected my favorite colors: Red, Black, and a print with Red/Khaki but as my water coloring started to morph, my paper had to be adjusted. Finished size of card is 5" x 7".

This side view photo shows the butterflies "molded" by bending the watercolor paper. My fellow buddy, Teri suggested to add color to the sides of the cut edges - yup, looks better! The butterflies are attached to the designer paper with dimensionals. I added "for you" message in front.

Bella Rose Tag Pocket Album

This tag book album finished size is 3" x 4-1/2". Tags are inserted from the top as well as inserted from the sides. These tags can be used for hand written messages or small photos. This is the front view:

Front close-up. Oval scallop with message has dimensionals behind it. The butterfly is also attached with a dimensional after wings are curled using a bone folder. Note the butterfly antennae is using the floral stamens from the Pretties kit. To keep the ribbon secure, use mini glue dots.

How was this tag book made? This is how:

• (1) sheet of 9" x 12" designer paper.
• Score on 12: side, every 3 "
• Turn paper to 9" side, score @4-1/2".
• Cut paper in the center 4-1/2" line as shown below

Fold paper as shown to create pockets for the tags. Position sticky tape to finish pockets (see above photo where to apply sticky tape - it should be the inside.The photo shows ONLY where the tape should go)......make sense?

Below front pieces:

• Satin ribbon: cut (1) 5" long, cut (1) 3" long
• Tag Book Binding is cut 4" x 3", score 1-3/8", 1/4", then use Eyelet Boarder Punch for each 4" side. Apply sticky tape and wrap around the front and back of the book.
  Stamp "for you" using Riding Hood Red ink, Punch out using Large Oval Punch. Attach on top of Scallop Oval.
• Stamp Butterfly using Riding Hood Red ink and cut out. Curl wings using bone folder, attach stamen with dimensional to front.

Top Tags:

• Cut (2) 2-1/2" x 4" Designer Paper, round 2 of the corners with 3/16" corner rounder Punch. Use Eyelet Boarder Punch for the Bottom.
• Cut (2) 2-1/4" x 3-3/4" Whisper White CS, proceed to same as Designer Paper using corner rounder and eyelet boarder punch.
• Attach Round tab to top.

Side Tags:

• Size of designer paper to cut and solid card stock are the same as the above top tags size.
• Use 3/16 Corner Rounder on the top right and bottom right of the tags. The use the Eyelet Boarder Punch along the vertical side as shown.
• Attach Round tab punched pieces

Below are the inside pages of the tag book:

• Cut (6) 2-1/4" x 4" Whisper White CS, use 3/16" corner rounder as shown.
• Cut (4) strips of designer paper with Eyelet Boarder Punch 4" x 5/8"
• Cut (2) strips of designer paper with Eyelet Boarder Punch 2-1/4" x 5/8"

Altered Purse Album & Nugget Purse

This purse album finished size is 6" x 6". The smaller Red Purse holds (1) nugget and it's finished size is 3" x 2-1/2". The outside of both projects is the Faux Alligator skin technique. Tip: use darker card stock to show off the alligator effect.

Below photo shows the inside of the Black Purse Album. Inside and scallop pages are randomly stamped using Red or Black ink
The Nugget Purse:

To make the Nugget Purse:
- Cut (1) 4" circle
- Apply Versamark ink directly on top of the circle, covering the entire area
- Add clear embossing powder
- Using the bone folder, randomly draw lines across the covered circle, tap off the excess clear powder
- Place circle in a baking pan, using a heat gun, transform the clear embossing to the alligator skin!
- Cut circle in half
For the Handles:
- make (2): Using scrap CS, first use Small Oval Punch, then use the Large Oval Punch.
- Apply Versamark and clear embossing powder.
For the Box:
- Cut (1) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" CS
- Score on 2 sides 1/2", turn paper and score 1", then 1/2"
- Cut slits and assemble box with sticky tape.
Final step for Nugget Purse:
- Position handles onto box.
- Using sticky tape, attach half of the circle.
- Do the same process for the other side

Supplies for the Nugget purse at end of this post.
Now to make the Altered Purse Album: start with (2) chipboard purses. These were in a pack of 5 found at Michael's (cost: $1.00 with a ring through them).
Sponge the front and back of the purse chipboard using black ink. Also color the chipboard edges with a black marker. Trace the shape of the purse chipboard to get (2) black and (2) Real Red purses. You'll need (6) Whisper White Scallop Circles (cut off 1-1/4").

For the spine: cut (1) 4" x 8" long, scoring 1", then every 1/2" - you will have (12) 1/2" score lines There should be 1" on each side of this spine - the rest is 1/2" "mountain and valley folds". Photo is only showing 1/2" (note: that wasn't enough!). Add sticky tape to both top/bottom sides of the 1" sections.
To keep the album spine secure, apply Tombow glue or snail in between the folds and hold down FIRM. See the (6) "mountain and Valley" folds below (note: right and left side should be 1" and not 1/2" as photo):

For the purse lining (inside): Stamp as shown. Use Versamark for the small flower.

Randomly stamp the Album Pages.

This is a photo of the Black front & back purse with clear embossing powder and lines made from the bone folder. Tap off excess powder, then apply heat.

After heat is applied - results! Apply adhesive to the chipboard and attach.

- Inside: Remove sticky tape on the spine, position it at the edge of the purse bottom.
- Apply adhesive to the rest of the inside chipboard.
- Place red lining on top of the accordion folded spine with sticky tape and smooth out the rest of the lining. Do the same for the other side.
- ONLY apply adhesive to the straight edge of the stamped side, then position it behind the fold. The backside of the scallop page should not be attached to the next fold. (see 2nd photo at the top of this posting).

Below a close-up of the Filigree Brads and red gem for the center (attached with mini glue dot. See the Real Red CS just peeking out from the underside......

• Ink: Versamark
• Accys: Clear Embossing Powder, Circle Scissor Cutter, Small Oval Punch, Large Oval Punch, Stickey Tape, bone folder.

• CS: Black, Real Red, Whisper White

Fold Up Circle Table Top Card

Yay! Swaps finished! This Fold Up Circle Table Top Card (what a mouthful to say!) finishes 3" x 3". Extra postage required if this is to be sent through the postal service.

So how is this made? Visual supplies below. (4) 6" circles: so (1) sheet of 12x12 paper is used. balance of the supplies are self explanatory - if not, feel free to e-mail me. Note: the embellishments shown are randomly placed in each panel.

For the basic Fold Up Circle card, fold each circle in Half, turn paper, fold in half again:

For all (4) circles: Open, cut out one of the sections but leave 3/8" allowance after the fold (as shown), apply sticky tape.

Remove sticky tape, adhere to the opposite side. Crease all (4) circles "base" as shown in photo.

The (4) sections should be positioned as the following. Apply adhesive to (3) of the (4) "backs".

Using the Horizontal Slot Punch, punch 1/2" in from the edge through 2 layers of Designer Paper. The left photo shows the underside of one of the layers. The right photo shows the top side of the 2nd layer. Cut ribbon about 9" long, thread through, tie knot to keep closed or open.

This is what the base looks like from the bottom after 3 panels are together:

tip: after preparing the messages for each panel, if they are to be positioned on the base, ONLY apply adhesive to HALF of the left side so the base panel can be folded in wards. See View of Panel 4: only the left side is "stuck" down, the right side is "loose".
