3-D Chinese Dress

This is a card inspired by Frances (a fabulous scrapbooker) who sent this technique using Washi Paper (I'll post that one next week). I had wanted to make a traditional "cheung sam" dress for a long time now and finally got this one checked off my list. The neck area was a bit tricky since the pieces are small. The paper used is a piece of scrap left over from a previous project. There are die cut Asian corners which are actually Sizzix dies glued down with dots of Tombow adhesive!

Here's a close-up of the card corners.

Inside top and bottom of the card has 1" strips of scrapbook paper.

Here how the dress was made. I hand drew a Chinese Dress on paper. Then transferred the pattern to light weight chipboard. Then I also found some 1/16" foam and traced the dress. You can find this type of thin foam from any of your packing materials. Remember this helps to RECYCLE! I didn't take too many photos so hopefully my explanation will work.

- Attach the foam dress onto the chipboard.
- Cut out the smaller pieces (neck and shoulder)
- Turn over, chipboard side up and place onto wrong side of paper.
- Cut paper 1/4" around the dress
- Add adhesive to the chipboard
- Cut notches where there are curve
- Fold back the excess paper
- Adhere dress with sticky tape to card.
Supplies:
  • CS: Black
  • Accys: Sizzix Architechtural Accents Set Die #2, Small Gold Asian Coins, Sticky Tape, Tombow Glue

Eastern Blooms Steps

Here's a "step card" - I ended up doing a fair amount of cutting (the flowers.) The instructions to make this type of card are pretty simple.
Basic instructions for the "steps":
- Cut (1) 4-1/4" x 11" CS
- Score @ 1-1/4", 2-1/2", 4-1/4", 6", 8-1/4"
For the card, cut (1) 4-1/4" x 5-1/8"
Let your imagination run wild for the rest: maybe photos in various sizes?

Here's a side view showing the "steps"

This is a close-up of the "back card" - the flowers have dimensionals in the back and the petals of the flowers are hand "curled" so they aren't so flat.

Here is a close-up of the front 2 "steps".

Supplies:
  • Stamps: Eastern Blooms, Happy Everything
  • CS: Raspberry Tart Designer Paper, Whisper White, Rose Red
  • Ink: Kiwi Kiss, Cameo Coral, Rose Red
  • Accys: Dimensionals, 1/4" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon, Stamp-a-mah-jig

Thank you for stopping by today....................hugs. Please leave a comment if you like (or don't like) this card.

Cupcake Pop-Up Card

Wow - this was fun to make! It's a 3x3 card. The Pretty in Pink card stock in front uses the dot from the Big Shot textured plates layered on top of Pixie Pink with dimensionals.....just the right amount of texture. In the center of the "b", some glittery stickles (poor photo!). The flower is from the SU exclusive Big Shot Cup Cake die.

Inside is the Cupcake - I love it! The base of the cupcake is crimped for texture. There is glittery stickles on the flame on the candle and on the icing! The SU exclusive Cupcake die includes the "dots" which was layered under the icing.

Here's a close-up view of the cupcake.

This view shows the "pop-up" .

Supplies:
  • stamps: Party Hearty, Big Bold Birthday
  • CS: Pretty in Pink, Very Vanilla, Whisper White, Pixie Pink, Close to Cocoa
  • Ink: Pixie Pink
  • Accys: Big Shot, Big Shot Dot Texture Plate, Big Shot Exclusive Cup Cake Die, Crimper, Dimensionals, 5/8" Circle Punch (non SU), Stickles Glitter (non SU)

CD Folder Tutorial: Basic Steps

Are you ready? This is a basic/generic tutorial for the CD Folder Album. Below CD Folder is in Kraft color. Papers used are in generic different colors on purpose
.
This is the inside of the 1st CD Folder below.
- Cut (1) 5"x5" for the left side
- Cut pocket template, trim 1/8" smaller
- Adhere

For the accordion to hold the tags/envelopes:
- Cut (1) 5"x11" (for 3 tags). For 4 tags, cut 5"x12"
- Score 5", 1/2", 1/2", 1/2", 1/2", 1/2", 1/2", 1/2". There should be 7 score lines. There will be 9 score lines for 4 tags.

The mountain folded accordion should look like the photo below.

Below is a close-up of the folds. There should be 3 of them. The bottom of the fold MUST be FLAT, otherwise, there will be problems with your album.

Turn paper over, apply adhesive ONLY between the score lines. This will prevent your folds from "bursting" - THAT would be ugly!

The glued accordion folds should now look like this:

The 5" side is the right side of the CD Folder and the smaller side is the left side.
Now fold the CD Folder in half: that means the outside should be touching the outside Cd Folder. Now you can slip both sides of the accordion into the pockets as sown below.

It should look the like this:

Tags:
- (3) Tags are cut 3"x4-1/2". Corner punch used for the outer corners.
- Add adhesive ONLY to the tag/envelope bottom, position to backside of the accordion.
- DO NOT add adhesive to the backside of any of tags.
- Evenly space all tags/envelopes

Below shows the last tag adhered to the accordion.
To connect the 1st CD Folder to the 2nd CD Folder:
- Cut (1) 5"x10-1/8"
- Fold in half

Place the 1st CD Folder right up against the 2nd CD Folder as shown below.
Generously apply adhesive to the right CD Folder. Adhere the 5"x 10-1/8" card stock on top. Ensure the CD Folder edge and the card stock edge is matching.
Then generously apply adhesive to the left side and adhere the card stock. Make certain the "connector" lays flat.

The Front & Back covers:
- Cut (2) 5"x5" Card Stock
- Cut (1) 5"x5" Card stock for the spine (this is optional)
- Adhere the spine to the Front & Back cover BEFORE finishing project
If there are 3 CD Folders, a 2nd "connector" will be needed. Follow the same procedure above. The inside of the 2nd and 3rd CD Folders are also the same procedure. There are endless creative ways to embellish the album......let your imagination guide you. There is no right or wrong way.
Thank you for stopping by today. Let me know if there are any questions. I aim to be as clear as possible, and...............thank you for your patience.

2008 Cookie Swap Book

FINALLY! This project is completed. I know Xmas was a while back. I wasn't going to post this but I may forget by the time 2009 comes around.......The covers are SU's Acetate Dividers cut down to 6"x6". 2008 chipboard numbers were donated from another fellow scrapbook friend. The large snowflakes used for the front & back covers? Recognize these from SU's 2008 Fall/Winter Mini Catalog? - they are the window clings. "Cookie Swap" letters are from SU's Big Shot Natural Serif Die. The Real Red background underneath the front and back acetate cover is stamped with the background dot using white craft ink.

This is a view of the dangling ribbons on the Red O-wires below. The ribbons are varied in length, width, and material. Festive Metallic Yarn was also used. There is no limit to the type of material that can be used. The Xmas light bulbs: they were taken from a garland and attached by knotting the ribbon. The final embellishment is the Scallop oval (EK Success) tag made with 2 layers of Chocolate Chip (to keep it sturdy). The dots in the Scallop are made using a Metallic Silver Pen. "Yummy" (SAB set) is embossed in white and punched with the SU Wide Oval Punch. Who knows where the snowflake stamp came from used in the background of the "Yummy".

Here's a close-up of the felt tree that has been embellished: the snowflakes are plastic from "Favorite Findings" adhered by mini glue dots. The red rhinestones are what I call: "oh so small" attached by Tombow glue and tweezers! And where did I get that felt tree? Cost Plus: 50% off and it is a garland which was taken apart - so that means there are more felt trees for more books.

This is another view of the front of the book

This is the back of the Recipe Book.

Inside the first page is an apron. The die is from Nestibilities (it is a retired die). The apron die automatically makes a slit in the apron: how perfect to insert the invitation. The invitation was shrunk to print at 75% from e-vite, folded in half, then put into the apron. The die has the holes for the apron strings - contrast green satin ribbon used. The "P" is from SU's Big Shot Naturally Serif die. Those peppermint sticks? They are cupcake toppers - yes, I was hoarding those, too (they are also several years old - who knows where I bought those). The "fun" is a metal embellishment from Making Memories - not sure if this item is still available.

Below photo is one of the pages showing the cookie and appetizer "spread" - YEEEK.........I spelled appetizer wrong! How embarrassing!

Photo below is the layout used for all the recipes in the book: a 3" deep pocket for this 6" x 6" page. Each page has a cookie photo. In the pocket is the recipe. The photo doesn't show this clearly but I wrote the cookie name right above the photo so the recipe can be properly re-filed into the pocket. Who could remember so many cookies? The photos were printed as 4"x6" size so after they are cut down to fit the pocket, leftovers were used to make several photo collages.
Below is the last page in the book. Metallic Silver journaling on one side and a photo collage on the left. There are also a scattering of metal snowflake sprinkles attached by using glue dots - where's these come from? Crate & Barrel, a few years back........they were table sprinkles that were sold from the Holidays.

Below top view of the book. There are 28 total pages with 19 recipes (but I think I missed one - can you believe THAT?) 1" Red O-wires just barely held this together. I didn't really want to go up to 1-1/2" O-wires but I may have to......sigh.
Lesson of the day: start to see what can be used as an embellishment - don't limit yourself to embellishments in a bag. Those usually cost more anyway. Make your own. For this book, I pulled out ALL my available Xmas stamps (gotta use those purchases) for the recipe pages instead of buying more scrapbook paper. Somehow, it all came together. I am very happy with the end result (except for the O-wire! I really may have to get those darn 1-1/2" ones)
I won't be lisitng the supplies today - waaaay too many..............
Thank you for stopping by today. I know a Holiday posting was not what was expected............a nice surprise? May this inspire you to plan your own swap. Love to hear your comments.
