Watercolor Butterflies

Now here's a card that is out of my comfort zone. I visited a Scrapbook Store in Novato, California called Krazy Kreations and absolutely fell in love with every project they showcased so attending one of their special monthly card clubs was no disappointment! This was our evening project: The Butterflies were embossed on watercolor paper. Then we colored each of them using a brush, dipping the brush in ink pools from Copic and a pool of blender solution. We got to select paper and made the butterflies "our own" so no cards were the same. I originally selected my favorite colors: Red, Black, and a print with Red/Khaki but as my water coloring started to morph, my paper had to be adjusted. Finished size of card is 5" x 7".

This side view photo shows the butterflies "molded" by bending the watercolor paper. My fellow buddy, Teri suggested to add color to the sides of the cut edges - yup, looks better! The butterflies are attached to the designer paper with dimensionals. I added "for you" message in front.

A close-up view of the larger butterfly. Copic colors used: R39, YR07, Y17, E25.

Close-up view of the smaller butterfly using the same Copic colors as in the larger butterfly:

  1. Hi Patti...love your last couple of projects and tutorials and this butterfly card is beautiful and very different for you. The way you colored and molded the butterflies makes them look more realistic.
