Back Pack Tutorial

This tutorial is for the Back Pack posted on 2/4/09. I've used different color paper to hopefully enable easier understanding.
-You will need one piece CS or Designer Paper 7" x 11"
-Score on 11" side as indicated below (1", 1", 3-1/4", 1" 1", 3-1/4", 1/2").
If you have a Score-pal, then score on the 11" side: 1", 2", 5-1/4", 6-1/4", 7-1/4", 10-1/2. Turn paper to short side: score 2"
-Cut (for flaps) as indicated on the photo below
-Punch 1/8" holes:
  • at top: 1/2" down, 1/4" to the right, 1/4" to the left
  • at bottom: 1/2" up from the bottom fold, 1/2" in toward the center.
  • hint: for the left hole, fold up the side flap to get punch in far enough.

-Also needed:
  • 1 Scallop Envelope (Big Shot die)
  • 1 Top Note (Big Shot die): score 2-3/8", 1/2". Cut away the rest of the top note (indicated by the black diagonal lines) to ensure final width to be 3-1/4" wide.

-Cut (2) 7-1/2" long 5/8" wide Grosgrain ribbon. Thread ribbon through holes (do not knot ends - it will be too bulky). See photo below: add snail to box and position bottom ribbon ends, about 1", toward the center. Top ribbon ends, about 1", are positioned toward the sides.

-Add sticky tape for box bottom flaps as shown in photo.

-Cut (1) 3-1/4" long x 5/8" wide Grosgrain ribbon for loop - see photo below for a close-up. Use sticky tape to position ribbon.

-Next: Using Sticky tape, line Top Note to inside top of box. This will cover the unsightly ribbon ends.

-After attaching the Top Note, turn paper over: with sticky tape, attach Scallop Envelope with flap on the outside. I added (a filigree brad in the 2/4 post) a dimensional under the flap. I used Velcro for closing the Top Note flap. Before final Back Pack assembly - your box should look like the photo below.
